Gisborne Girls' High School's annual athletics day this week attracted an outstanding participation rate despite a wet start.
“It was a really good day,” Girls' High head of sport Arna Majstrovic said.
“It started off a bit drizzly in the morning but we made the call to have it andit turned out to be brilliant.
“We ended up with probably the highest participation rate we've had for competitive sports.”
Although no records were broken on the day, there were “pretty stand-out” results for sprinters Jessie Kapene, who did the 100 and 200 metres sprint double in the intermediate division while Briana Irving emulated that in the senior sprints.
Competitors took part in 13 individual track and field events, as well as relay sprints.
The overall individual junior champion was Evelyn Busher, Maia Houthuijzen claimed the intermediate honours and Le'Sharn Anderson was the senior champion.
