Two women remanded in custody before Christmas on jointly-laid charges of burglary and six counts of dishonestly using a document (a bank card) each sought bail.

The application for one of the defendants, Wairoa woman Dawina Louise Ropitini, 32, was refused.

Judge Haamiora Raumati further remanded her to appear again in Gisborne District Court by AV-link on February 8.

The judge adjourned an application for the second woman, Shandah Renee Tuahine, 36.

The complainant had tried to have the charge withdrawn, the court was told.

But after the case was stood down for her to receive further legal advice, she pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of assault (laid under the Crimes Act).
