Opinion
I read with interest the view of the community that Comet “should” have been given/ was “entitled to secure”, etc, the learn-to-swim contract for the Kiwa Pools.
The reality is that we live and operate in a corporate environment.
The world does not stop at the Whareratas or the WaioekaGorge. For many, it would pay to get out occasionally, if you can, and experience the world.
What has happened is that an “international company” outperformed Comet in the tender process, subject to any miscarriage of justice (undeclared conflict of interest etc). They won, fair and square.
Competition is a challenge, but a reality we should accept and focus on the positive.
Comet is a club that will grow and flourish and continue to teach our children how to swim and be safe in the water. If we, as a community, feel strongly about this, we will continue to enrol our children with Comet, pay our bills on time and not support the “international company’s” programmes. They will, of course, like any business walk away when they discover there is no money to be made.
