Police have arrested a fourth man in relation to the alleged assault on a man in his Riverdale home last month.

The man suffered serious injuries in the attack by a group of people at his Park View Place home on November 19.

Police allege the group went to the home and demanded alcohol and the attack happened when the homeowner said he had none.

The first three arrests were made earlier this month.

“This was an incredibly appalling level of violence inflicted on this 61-year-old man,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Moorhouse.

“It's a relief to finally have some justice for the crime.”

The man's wife was left traumatised by what happened and her husband was hospitalised.

Four men, aged between 20 and 28, have been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and burglary.

Two appeared in Gisborne District Court yesterday and two others are due to appear in court — one this week, and the other in early January.

“Thank you to those who came forward with information that helped in our investigation and location of these men.”
