The first “climbers” in the annual Titirangi-Mount Everest Challenge hit the hill this morning as the popular event got under way.

So far close to 900 people have registered for the Sean Shivnan Pharmacy event, involving 68 climbs of the hill, the equivalent to climbing Mount Everest.

It runs from today through to November 21.

Registrations can be made through Sports Gisborne Tairawhiti.

All smiles on the maunga this morning were the Team Puku Ora Lunch Crew, from left, Charlie Ribbon, Breezy Waiariki, Hineari Nom, Lucy Blue, Hannah Pride and Johnny Kane.
