Firefighters tackle nearby house before dealing to shed blaze

FIREFIGHTERS arrived just in time last night to stop a shed fire on a property in Kaiti spreading into a neighbouring house.

Fire and Emergency NZ sent two crews to the Coldstream Road property in outer Kaiti at about 8.30pm.

“The small three-by-three metre shed was well alight when we got there and the flames were starting to catch on to the neighbour's house, which was only a few metres away,” a senior firefighter said.

“We tackled the threat to the nearby house first and stopped the fire spread.

A fence between the properties was also on fire.

The shed, which had been used for storage was badly damaged, so too the fence.

“The cause was not suspicious. We believe the fire in the shed was started as a result of some sort of electrical fault,” she said.

The fire crews were there for about an hour and half.

“Fortunately neighbours saw the shed on fire and called 111.”
