A shed and its contents on a property in Makauri Grove near King Road at Makauri were destroyed in a fire on Tuesday night.

Fire and Emergency NZ sent four appliances, including tankers, to the forestry contractors property at around 6.30pm that night.

“The six-by-six-square-metre shed was well involved in fire when we arrived,” a senior station officer said.

The fire crews were there for three hours putting it out, and dampening down the remains.

“The calm weather conditions at the time helped limit the fire spreading to any other property,” he said.

“Neighbours came over and moved a vehicle and a trailer away from the burning shed.”

The home owners were away from the property at the time.

How the fire got started remains under investigation.
