A109 Light Utility Helicopter flight with mayor Gisborne City from the air in November 2023.

A109 Light Utility Helicopter flight with mayor Gisborne City from the air in November 2023.

It was great to see the councillors were finally allowed to comment on the Kiwa Pools Learn to Swim tender. Although the tender process was endorsed, it was also very apparent there are questions regarding the policy.

However, the question to the council was, “What consideration did the petition with 4577 signatures supporting Comet have?” Answer: NONE.

The key takeaway from this is that community views did not matter. (Remembering the petition was instigated by a member of the public.)

Cr Alder believed “the decision to not buy local would affect the profitability of Kiwa Pools”.

Thank you for the community support shown. I ask locals not to follow the council lead, and do shop locally with Comet.

Comet will continue to offer quality Learn to Swim from the indoor heated Elgin pool, where they have for the past decades.

Comet will also continue with stroke correction improvement groups, including squad groups, at the new Kiwa Pools.
