“We picked that as a central location for those who might want to attend.
“In 2023 we got together in Gisborne and here we are again for what will probably be our final reunion, given that most of us are in our late 70s now.”
This year they broadened the criteria to include students from 1961-64, which was the period of time it took to fully establish the school.
Priestley said it had been “quite amazing” to see what had come out of the reunions.
“People we didn’t know that well during our school days at Lytton, we’ve formed new friendships with from these reunions.
“We’ve also developed our Facebook page and through that we’ve been able to stay in regular contact.”
This reunion begins with an evening meal at the Forces Cafe on Wednesday night.
“That’s going to very informal, a chance to sit round and talk about old and present times,” Priestley said.
“Thursday morning we meet at the school for a tour, then a function in the assembly hall where we will have the school kapa haka group perform for us.”
The reunion ends on Thursday night with a meal at Gisborne Tatapouri Sports Fishing Club.
“We’re expecting about three dozen “originals”, as we call ourselves, for the event. It’s going to be great to see everyone again."
