A GISBORNE man has been charged after an incident where a dog was allegedly thrown off a Gisborne city bridge. The dog could not be found afterwards.

The incident happened on February 25.

A 25-year-old man has been charged with ill-treatment of an animal.

He has made an initial appearance in the Gisborne District Council where he entered no plea.

“The man was located after a member of the public phoned in to report the alleged incident,” police said.

The dog was not found by police.

“We did find some dog footprints on the riverbank, so the animal may have gone elsewhere.”
