Cedenco Foods New Zealand Limited has pleaded guilty to charges brought by Gisborne District Council in relation to an alleged environmental offence.
The company, represented in Gisborne District Court yesterday by counsel Lucy Rishworth, admitted that between August 12 and 21 of last year it discharged leachate from food processing
waste into a creek in Dunstan Road, and that it breached an abatement notice.
Two further similar charges were withdrawn by prosecutor Adam Hopkinson.
Judge Warren Cathcart adjourned the case for sentencing at the next sitting of the Environment Court in Gisborne on August 8.
Mr Hopkinson said the offences came to light as a result of the council’s routine testing regime.
