$7000 for a week’s work.

No wonder Stu Watts was crowing like the rooster who escaped the axe in the Monday night Room Reveal results episode of The Block 2019.

DIY deadly duo Stu and Amy Moore’s cameo return to the TV3 reality show they dominated in 2018 reaped them a record eighth Room Reveal victory.

The Team Gizzy pair were unveiled last week as a shock fifth combo for Bathroom Week of The Block Firehouse this year being held in Auckland’s inner city suburb of Kingsland.

The reaction as the 2018 Block champions emerged from behind the door as “Team Black” was a bit like the South African players when Black Cap Grant Elliott hit a six to knock the Proteas out of the 2015 Cricket World Cup.

Stu and Amy were brought back to do up the bathroom in a fifth apartment of the former fire station complex.

It was billed as the pros versus the rookies . . . and it pretty much well turned out that way.

Three of this year’s contenders ended the week like goldfish flailing on the floor after the cat knocked the bowl off the table.

As the week progressed and the floundering continued, Amy and Stu were ultimately left licking their paws and purring to the tune of $7000 cash.

Only one of the four managed to complete their bathroom — Sophia and Mikaere.

To their credit, they gave the veteran Blockers a run for their money.

But the judges — including Stu and Amy-loving Jason Bonham — ruled in favour of Team Gizzy, scoring them 18.5 to Sophia and Mikaere’s 17.

Last year they won seven room reveals.

It wouldn’t be The Block, especially with Stu and Amy back, without a little controversy.

The pair were asleep when their builder Dave Wallace returned earlier than tradies are allowed on the site to pick up gear before heading back to Gisborne.

They didn’t know. Show host Mark Richardson wasn’t happy but let them off, then asked them if they had words of advice for this year’s contenders.

“You need to realise that the building you have been given this year is a gift,” said Amy.

“Don’t mess it up,” said Stu. “You didn’t come here for a holiday. You came to get the job done. You have only got 12 weeks, so get in and do it.”
