A109 Light Utility Helicopter flight with mayor Gisborne City from the air in November 2023.

I have visited friends in our hospital over the past few weeks and am appalled at the abuse of the once pristine grass verges on the lawn edges, mainly in the area in front of the main entrance, but elsewhere on the grounds.

People have been parking on the soft grass instead of using the parking area.

The grass and ground is soft because of the amount of rain we have had.

The hospital has been there for many years now, and I have never seen abuse like this of a public amenity. Some lazy sods are either scared of getting wet if it is raining, or are just plain too lazy to walk a little distance — be it a couple of hundred yards.

Why the hospital is permitting it I do not know. Are they going to allow it when the grass and grounds are dry?

Come on hospital people in charge of this — pull finger and put up some of those orange cones everyone seems to be in favour of, or fence the area off to let it recover.
