SHE performed in New Zealand two years ago during her “farewell” concert tour but as seen after her near fatal car accident in 1992 there is no keeping Scottish country/folk singer Isla Grant down.

The multi-platinum-selling singer is returning to New Zealand and will perform in Gisborne next week. She describes her sound as easy listening folk/country music with a little bit of gospel.

Having been brought up in the country, she enjoys performing in Gisborne, she says.

“I’m back again and will continue to perform until people are fed up with seeing me.

“I believe my audiences are the best in the world. I like to talk with my audiences. People want to hear where the song comes from. I’ve just written a song about how cruel the world is getting to animals.

“Songwriting is a good way to let off steam.”

People connect with her songs, she says.

“I have looked out in to the audience and seen people in tears."

Having performed in folk clubs from an early age, Grant worked professionally in the country music scene until 1992 when she was involved in a serious road accident along with her husband Al.

Injuries kept her off the road for five years, but in that time she wrote more music. She made a comeback with a new show and new songs, she says. She also went on to record 11 more albums.

“I wrote inspirational gospel songs while I was in recovery. The songs are mostly to do with my husband and my family and with what’s happening in the world.”
