Auntie Lianne entertains with her dry humour and unique perspective.
The Little Tairawhiti Comedy Fest kicks off tonight with three nights of comedy at Evolution Theatre. This is your chance to see some of the hottest up-and-coming comedic talent from all over Aotearoa, including Ben Tito Caldwell, Joanna Joy, Auntie Lianne and more.
Auntie Lianne takes to the stage tomorrownight bringing her dry, in-your-face humour and unique perspective on life.
Starting a comedy career at the age of 60 isn’t exactly conventional, but Auntie Lianne is anything but that.
In fact, going rogue most of her life has reaped many rewards. She stepped onto the stage for the first time in 2019 and she hasn’t looked back, winning the 2020 Central Raw Comedy Quest, a star of the hit all- wāhine Māori comedy show Shoes Off (At The Door) and was a finalist in TVNZ’s 60 Seconds. Describing her comedy style as “quite Māori” and her material as self-deprecating, she proves it is never too late to pursue your goals.
Radio DJ turned stand-up comedian Richard Dryden also features in the line-up as part of Dueling Mangos with Chris Ingham. Chris was nominated for best joke NZ Comedy Guild awards 2022 and Richard, Best MC DIY Comedy Awards 2021. The duo will be armed with their musical instruments to bring you My Chemical Bromance on Saturday night.
Richard lost his tongue to cancer and he has used comedy to restore his confidence after working for 16 years in radio. His body has been decaying slowly since renal failure began at 13. He gratefully borrowed (long term) his mum’s kidney, and has since ridden the rollercoaster that life with a compromised immune system brings.
This has given him a unique take on the world and himself and the ability to turn the observed into the absurd.
