You know how you’ve often thought “I wonder what ever became of girl group TrueBliss singer Joe Cotton”?

Well, she’s now a Mermaid.

Well, a performer with the Mermaids Dance Band (MDB), at least. The trio also includes Trelise Cooper style consultant and recording artist Amber Claire, Mermaids founder Pauline Berry and, for their upcoming ABBA tribute in Gisborne, former Hello Sailor keyboard player Stuart Pearce.

The group initially had five ABBA hits in its dance repertoire but the MDB’s love of the Swedish pop act’s music led to the addition of 22 more songs and a tribute show. Along with hits such as Waterloo, Does Your Mother Know, Lay All Your Love On Me, Ring Ring, Mamma Mia, Super Trooper, Take A Chance On Me, I Do I Do I Do, Honey Honey, I Have A Dream, Knowing Me Knowing You, Dancing Queen, Thank You For The Music, Fernando, and SOS, the vocalists perform in eye-popping costumes from the glam rock era of ABBA. Cozzie Club audiences are unlikely to need much of a nudge but participation and dancing is encouraged. Feel free to turn up in 1970s glitz as well.

ABBA Heaven - All the Hits! A tribute show by The Mermaids Dance Band, Cosmopolitan Club, Saturday, June 29 at 8pm. Tickets $25+bf from www.eventfinda.co.nz
