A Christmas Carol will be performed by the Evolution Theatre’s Rising Stars this weekend.

A Christmas Carol will be performed by the Evolution Theatre’s Rising Stars this weekend.

Evolution Theatre’s newest recruits, the Rising Stars, will showcase their talent this weekend when they take to the stage to perform two special Christmas plays.

Rising Stars is the acting programme for youth which helps keen young actors to develop theatre skills and build up their confidence.

It is taken by Beth Fourie and Julie McPhail.

The Rising Stars tamariki started in term 3 with theatre workshops and began rehearsals for their upcoming performance in term 4.

“I originally wrote The Magic Toy Shop as a Christmas play for my class students to perform to the school I was teaching at,” Beth says.

“We chose it this year as it is a great way for each of the junior Rising Stars to showcase their development and be in the spotlight.”

A Christmas Carol was chosen as a fan favourite and the young actors were able to learn about Charles Dickens, his stories and why he wrote A Christmas Carol.

“We are so proud of the Rising Stars and how their confidence has grown from a whisper to a roar,” Beth says.

Where: Evolution Theatre.

Friday December 15 at 5.30pm;

Saturday and Sunday December 16 and 17 at 1.30pm.
