Described as Sesame Street meets South Park, Avenue Q is here and Musical Theatre Gisborne wants you.

Winner of the Tony Triple Crown for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, Avenue Q tells the timeless story of a recent college graduate trying to find his way in the world.

Inspired by the beloved children's show Sesame Street, Avenue Q creates a puppet-filled world that is a little more reflective of the painful realities we face in life.

Despite featuring puppets, Avenue Q is R-rated, featuring adult themes and content.

Director of the Gisborne production of Avenue Q, Peter Derby, has long been a fan of Avenue Q and is delighted to have the opportunity to direct this musical.

“The script is hilarious, with the majority of lead roles being puppet characters alongside roles for three human characters,” said Derby.

The roles are varied, including the driving of muppet-style puppets.

Musical Theatre Gisborne is looking for a cast of up to 11 people. Owing to the adult themes and content they are restricting all auditionees to age 18 and over.
