Night. An empty stage. Enter . . . you, with a script written by you and your team within 48 hours before you perform it at the War Memorial Theatre.
Run by Evolution Theatre Company’s managing artistic director Dinna Myers, the 48-hour play festival format is similar to the 48-hour
film-making competition — except the 48-hour playwrights will compose and create characters for a live performance.
Nine teams are called for to participate in this first-time-in-Gisborne event.
The festival begins on Friday, September 14, at 7pm at Evolution Theatre at 75 Disraeli St. Each team will be given a specific prop and a piece of text that must be included in their plays. They have 48 hours to write their theatrical pieces at no more than 10 minutes long.
Then from 7pm on September 16 the original plays will be presented on stage before a live audience.
