As a composer, pianist Tony Chen Lin has had works played by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and Christchurch Youth Orchestra.

On Wednesday, he performs in the first concert of Musica Viva’s autumn season.

Recent highlights in Lin’s musical career include performances of Bartok’s First Piano Concerto, a solo tour with Chamber Music New Zealand and a performance with the Switzerland-based string quartet Quatuor Sine Nomine.

He releases his debut solo album this year on Rattle Records.

Joining him in a programme that includes Mozart’s Sonata for piano and violin in E minor. Gao Ping’s 2008 work Questioning the Mountain, and Schumann’s Humoreske Op. 20, is violinist Jun Hong Loh.

On top of his many achievements, the Singaporean musician has featured as one of his home country’s leading musical talents in Channel News Asia’s documentary series Asia’s Wonder Kids.

He also recently recorded violin solos for the Singapore-produced movie 7 Letters. Intent on developing Singapore’s music scene, he co-founded More than Music, a concert series dedicated to presenting engaging and intimate concerts for audiences.

Loh has won numerous awards including first prize at the Gisborne International Music Competition.
