THE works of German composers Beethoven and Brahms will come alive during a concert in Okitu this month.

Award-winning Christchurch-born pianist Jun Bouterey-Ishido will perform at the second Tiromoana summer concert in the home of arts patron Professor Jack Richards.

Bouterey-Ishido started playing piano at the age of five under the tutelage of Veronica Van der Knaap, then Diedre Irons.

After completing a Bachelor of Music with honours at Canterbury University, he travelled to Germany, completing his master’s degree in Stuttgart with distinction.

His studies were supported by grants from three independent entities (Anne Reid Memorial Trust, Kiwi Music and Keith Laugesen), as well as a Tytheridge Scholarship.

Tickets for the concert on January 18 at 7.30pm, costing $25 for adults and $10 for children (cash only), can be bought at the door, but reservations are recommended.

All funds raised will be donated to the Gisborne International Music Competition. Bookings can be made by phone on 868 6443 or email: gillco@gisborne.net.nz
