Callas — Paris, 1958

Maria Callas made her Paris debut with this performance at the Paris Opéra on December 19, 1958. She opened with Norma’s “Casta Diva”, followed by the “Miserere” scene from Verdi’s Il Trovatore. She lightened the mood with “Una Voce Poco Fa” from Il Barbiere di Siviglia. The climax of the evening came in the second half: a fully staged performance of Tosca, Act II. Entirely in colour and in 4K Ultra HD, restored from the recently discovered original 16mm reels and a newly discovered sound source.

The life and work of neglected artist Audrey Amiss provide the backdrop to an imagined road trip by Amiss (played by Monica Dolan) and her psychiatric nurse (Kelly Macdonald). The fictional story is informed by extensive archival research by film writer and director Carol Morley.

Loop Track

A psychological thriller about Ian, who wants to get as far away from humanity as possible, in the New Zealand bush. Other people get attached to him, and he has the feeling they are being followed.

The Filth and the Fury

The second feature-length Sex Pistols documentary made byJulien Temple. Follows The Great Rock and Roll Swindle, made in 1980. This one, made in 2000, is considered a continuation, and gives surviving band members an opportunity to tell their side of the story.

Uproar

Julian Dennison stars as a teenager who doesn’t fit in anywhere until he discovers performance, his heritage and the 1981 Springbok tour protests.
