Pick and Mix: Allsorts

Salt

Salt, a photographic exhibition by Phil Yeo, is an exploration of our community here in Te Tairāwhiti. The portrait series considers our collective and individual identities and was produced during 2020, as the global pandemic changed our world. Tairāwhiti Museum until August 21.

Hautapu

Featuring creatives from Toihoukura Māori Visual Arts School between 1992-2002. Te Rau Aroha, 26 Peel Street. Exhibition viewing times: Monday to Friday 10am to 4.30pm.

Pumanawa

An exploration and celebration of whakapapa. featuring art from Steve Gibbs, Christopher Huriwai, Piupiu Maya Turei, George Watson and Skawenatti (Turtle Island). Open Wednesday to Friday 11am to 4pm and Saturdays 11am to 3pm. Hoea! Gallery, 67 Gladstone Road.

Let Me Be Myself

Developed by Anne Frank House in the Netherlands, and viewed by more than 10 million people in 80 countries, this exhibition explores what life in hiding was like for Anne, her family, and the other occupants of Prinsengracht 263. Tairāwhiti Museum, until July 24.

Elvis Presley rises to fame in the 1950s while maintaining a complex relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. Stars Austin Butler as Elvis, Tom Hanks as the Colonel, and Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla Presley.

The Lion King Reo Maori

The '90s Disney classic is revoiced in Te Reo Māori. It is a film full of colourful animal characters and a classic battle between good and evil.

Minions: The Rise of Gru

In the 1970s, young Gru tries to join a group of supervillains called the Vicious 6 after they oust their leader — the legendary fighter Wild Knuckles. When the interview turns bad, Gru and his Minions go on the run with the Vicious 6 hot on their tails. Luckily, he finds an unlikely ally — Wild Knuckles himself.

Whina

Rena Owen, Miriama McDowell, James Rolleston, Tioreore Ngatai-Melbourne and Vinnie Bennett star in a film that follows the life of Māori leader Dame Whina Cooper, who spent her life breaking boundaries, speaking for the rights of Māori and fighting for the land.

Lightyear

Space ranger Buzz Lightyear, from Toy Story, embarks on an intergalactic adventure alongside ambitious recruits and his robot companion, Sox. As they tackle their toughest mission yet, they must learn to work as a team to escape the evil Zurg and his robot army.

Jurassic World Dominion

Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill appear together in the Jurassic franchise for the first time since Jurassic Park (1993). Dominion is set four years after the events of Fallen Kingdom. Dinosaurs now live alongside humans in a fragile balance. Chris Pratt also stars.

Top Gun: Maverick

After more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy's top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is now a test pilot. Called in to train a detachment of graduates for a special assignment, Maverick must confront the ghosts of his past.

DOME CINEMA

Mermaid in Paris

A man rescues a mermaid in Paris and slowly falls in love with her. Stars Nicolas Duvauchelle and Marilyn Lima. Film has 100 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes website.

Whetu Marama — Bright Star

The story of Sir Hekenukumai Ngaiwi Puhipi, also known as Hek Busby, and his significance for Māori in rekindling their wayfinding DNA and for all New Zealanders in reclaiming their place as traditional star voyagers on the world map.

Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom

A disillusioned teacher is transferred to the most remote school in the world, deep in the Himalayan glaciers. In a classroom with no electricity or even a blackboard, he finds himself with only a yak and a song.
