AFTER months of preparation, the Rongowhakaata Iwi Trust Rukupo Exhibition Series this week got under way with demonstrations and installations already opened at three of the iwi’s Manutuke marae — Whakato, Te Pahou and Manutuke — and three more to come.
A precursor to a Rongowhakaata exhibition at Tairawhiti Museum
this year and at Te Papa in 2017, the series gives each of the iwi’s five marae the opportunity to share their unique stories with iwi members and casual visitors.
The exhibition at Manutuke Marae is now closed; Whakato and Te Pahou’s (pictured) remain on show until 3pm Friday; the installation at Te Kuri a Tuatai Marae (Taurau Valley Road, Manutuke) is on Friday; and on Saturday it’s the turn of Ohako Marae (Papatu Road, Manutuke) to tell its stories.
