Epic search for homegrown talent

All That Glitters is Gizzy is on the hunt for locals to share their talent on-stage this year at Te Tairawhiti Arts Festival.

If you're a comedian, singer, musician, dancer or magician, have a special talent, ability or skill, organisers want to see what you have got.

Hosted by entertainers Jackie Clarke and Rutene Spooner, All That Glitters is Gizzy will be a 100 percent homegrown cabaret extravaganza, showing for two nights at the festival in October.

“We don't know what to expect, but we're hoping to get a variety of skills, singers, dancers, jugglers, someone who can tell a joke or a contortionist,” says host Jackie Clarke.

“No matter what, it will be highly entertaining.”

The event is a safe space for local talent to come out of the woodwork and shine.

“The doors to the festival are open so come on in and let's make a show.”

A professional in the business, Clarke has some tips for those thinking about entering.

“Send in a short snippet of what you do.

“You don't have to produce a 10-minute magnum opus. If you're singing a song, send through a verse and a chorus. All we need is a feel and a vibe of what you do.

“If you're a comedian, send in a couple of jokes.

“Don't overthink it. Get someone to hold the camera for you where the lighting is flattering.”

Clarke says as judges, she and Spooner are there to bring out the best in everyone and put on a wicked show.

“Anything that has entertained your family or made them laugh, bring it to us. The door is wide open.”
