Emily Fairlight is support act for Marlon Williams’ Turangawaewae Tour concert at the War Memorial Theatre, Thursday next week at 7:30pm.
With a voice that ranges from the most intimate of whispers to the strongest of wails, Wellington musician, poet and a songwriter Emily Fairlight’s sound has been compared to P.J. Harvey, Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane), and Cat Power.
On Wednesday next week she joins alt-country smoothie Marlon Williams as support
act for his Gisborne show. Music writers describe Fairlight’s sound as haunting, languidly sexual, and ethereal, a fine complement to Williams’ style.
Radio New Zealand’s Nick Bollinger: “Fairlight’s songs lend themselves to Americana, still there is also something universal about them, and the best ones here distil moments of emotional turmoil into palpable images anyone could feel.”
