THE former Regional Museums Policy has morphed into the Regional Culture and Heritage Fund, meaning its reach can extend beyond museums to include potential support for venues such as theatres and opera houses, heritage buildings with display collections and whare taonga.
With about $6.6 million to spend, the fund played
a part in the extension of Gisborne’s Tairawhiti Museum but with its new scope could also be used for projects like the return home of historic meeting house, Te Hau Ki Turanga.
“The RCHF is a more flexible fund able to support a wide range of important regional institutions,” says Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage, Marrie Barry.
