OFF THE ROAD: Original songs with the authenticity of folk and the spirit of rock’n’roll, wrote The Listener’s Nick Bollinger about four-piece Hobnail who perform at the Dome next Thursday.
FROM their 1996 album Deboot to their most recent release Blue Sky Songs, Celtic folk, bluegrass, pop and rock band Hobnail’s recording trajectory has prepared the four-piece for take off.
Described as a “fine distillation of life’s lessons, well learned”, Blue Sky Songs is mature and occasionally fiery.
Now on
the road again, the four-piece will step off the highway to perform, as part of their Blue Sky Songs tour, in the comfort of the leather couched, lamp-lit lounge offered by the Dome Room. Blue Sky Songs is an acoustic offering that features violins, acoustic guitars and mandolas alongside electric instruments, as well as three lead singers.
“Whenever I need a foot stomping good time, or to shed a tear over the glory of life itself, I go out and listen to the Hobnail,” enthused former Gisborne poet and raconteur Gary McCormick.
