Faces of the Coast, an art exhibition made up of donated art works, opens at Forty10 Cafe on Lowe Street on Friday.
All money raised is going to two groups — The Mahia Wave Warriors and The Mahi Mahi Bowlriders — doing positive things in the community to support grievingfamilies and provide positive programmes to help ensure a better and brighter future.
“We have a major problem with suicide and mental health here in beautiful Aotearoa,” says organiser Brett Summerlie. “Many of us have lost loved ones or know someone battling with mental illness.
“In 2020 we sadly lost one of our brothers — like many cases an amazingly talented and loving human gone far too early.”
This is the fourth year of the Faces of the Coast art exhibition which draws attention to suicide and mental health in an effort to prevent further lives being taken.
Brett thanked Ashleigh at Forty10 Cafe for providing the space to hang the artworks and Sunshine Brewery and Wrights Winery for their ongoing support of this event.
“This is an opportunity to purhcase a piece of art for Christmas and support an essential cause,” he said. Each piece of art in the exhibition will have a ‘buy now’ price and a bidding option with all bids starting at $150 to honour and respect the donating artist’s time and generosity.
