The idea of thousands of tiny missiles pounding my skin did not immediately appeal to me . . . but Caci Beauty Clinic manager Renee Taylor did warn me that this was not the place to go for “fluffy massages” and “feel-good facials”.

“At Caci, we’re results’ driven — it’s all about skin health rather than pampering. We design treatment programmes to suit our clients’ needs and concerns,” said Renee.

Caci may be a newcomer to Gisborne, opening their Ballance Street clinic in February this year, but they have had a strong presence in New Zealand since 1994.

There are now 47 Caci clinics nationwide and three in the UK.

The list of treatments they offer is extensive, falling under three main categories:

The Amerase plan encompasses appearance medicine treatments carried out by registered nurse Jessica Saxby. These include cosmetic injection procedures to reduce the visible signs of ageing and restore volume in the skin. It was interesting to learn that Caci is the largest provider of appearance medicine in the Southern Hemisphere treating more than 10,000 people in the past three years. The Freedom plan offers a long-term solution to unwanted hair with laser treatment and electrolysis. The Reforma Skin plan uses a combination of skin-correcting treatments for uneven skin tone or texture, red veins and pigmentation.Renee said she’s astounded at the results they are achieving to remove age spots, broken capillaries, sun damage, acne scars, hyperpigmentation and melasma.

Having consulted beauty therapist Taleah Johnstone, who conducted an in-depth assessment of my skin, it was decided I should have a microdermabrasion facial.

First of all, Taleah applied a Refreshing Cleanser to remove surface impurities, make-up and oils while soothing and hydrating the skin, followed by a Hydrating Toner to restore the pH balance of the skin and rehydrate it.

Then it was time for the Miracle Skin Therapy microdermabrasion machine which blasts small crystals at the skin and simultaneously vacuums them back up.

The process has multiple benefits for the skin, Taleah explained.

“It performs a deep and thorough exfoliation, helps unblock pores and stimulates blood to the surface of the skin which brings nutrients to the cells.

“This helps speed up cell renewal and induces the production of collagen,” she said.

It felt quite abrasive and I expected my skin to be red and irritated after the treatment but instead it looked healthy and positively glowing. Quite remarkable.

After the microdermabrasion, Taleah applied a Hydrating Gel mask to restore hydration and sooth the skin followed by Renewing Eye Cream, to brighten and tighten the skin.

“The cream increases the elasticity of the skin around the eyes and reduces dark circles and puffiness.”

Next up was an Intensive Age-Diffusing Serum to firm the skin, help minimise the appearance of lines, improve elasticity and plump the skin to give it a youthful glow.

The finale was a Perfecting Day Cream, a lightweight moisturiser with powerful antioxidants that hydrate the skin and essential fatty acids that condition and feed the skin.

“This cream has pomegranate and grape seed extract to restore the suppleness and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.”

My skin has never had so much attention and was deeply appreciative.

Most treatment plans like Amerase and ReformaSkin are conducted over the course of a year which can be expensive.

Treatment co-ordinator Louise Kay explained Caci has various payment options which allow clients to spread payments over the duration of their treatment.

Clients on plans are also eligible for attractive rewards like discounted skincare products and complimentary treatments.

If you would like to know more, Caci is holding an open day on April 27 from 5.30 to 7pm.
