A traditional Buddhist sand mandala is being constructed by two Tibetan-born monks who fled their homeland due to religious persecution in the late-twentieth century.
Venerable Geshe Jamyang Sherab and Venerable Karma Gyasey are now hard at work for the next two weeks in Tauranga Art Gallery to create the mandalafrom scratch.
Each morning, the monks recite their prayers before commencing work on the piece.
After it is completed, it will stay in the gallery until a dissolution ceremony on March 11.
The public are welcome to visit the gallery over the next few weeks as the monks create the religious artwork.
