The future stars of Kiwi motocross showcased their talents over Easter weekend when 240 riders competed for seven national titles at Tokoroa.
Two riders emerged from the three-day, five-race championship with unbeaten records. Mangakino's Maximus Purvis (Honda) went through undefeated as he dominated the 8-10 years 85cc class.
And it was the
youngest class that produced the best result for the Tauranga Motorcycle Club riders with Te Puke's Jordan Milsom (Suzuki) finishing runner-up behind Purvis.
Milsom stepped up from seventh place on Friday to finish third in all of the remaining races and finish ahead of Cambridge racer Trent Liddle-Collins.
Also unbeaten was Takaka's Hamish Harwood (KTM) who won the 14-16 years 250cc class with five wins from five starts.
It was a hard-fought championship with Rotorua's Haki Waller (KTM) and Aucklander Brandon Tipene (Kawasaki) also showing front-running pace and finishing equal on points in second place before Waller claimed the No2 plate after a countback.
It was good championship for South Island riders with Micah McGoldrick (Rangiora), Courtney Duncan (Palmerston) and 150cc 4-stroke winner James Ree (Rangiora) joining Harwood among the champions.
McGoldrick (KTM) finished just three points clear of Hamish Harwood - doing double duty - in the 15-16 years 125cc class. McGoldrick won three races and Harwood won twice while Rotorua's Cameron Vaughan (Yamaha) was only six points further back.
Te Puke's Logan Blackburn (Yamaha) and Katikati rider Garth Amrein (Yamaha) were closely matched throughout the 15-16 years 125cc contest finishing fifth and sixth respectively.
Blackburn qualified fourth but had a first race crash which aggravated a shoulder injury and saw him finish 12th before battling up the leaderboard with three fourths and one third placing.
Amrein - one of the youngest in the class having just missed out on racing the 12-14 years class - started with a fourth on Friday and followed up with a fifth, two sixths and an eighth.
Otago sensation Courtney Duncan (Yamaha) dominated the 13-16 years 85cc class. She raced clear of the boys for four wins and a second.
Duncan's winning margins were all in the region of 30 seconds and in the only race she didn't win she climbed back from a bad start to finish behind Chase Smith (Kumeu) who was the runner-up.
Te Puke's Cameron Forlong (Suzuki) finished ninth, leaping up the order with a strong Sunday performance when he produced a seventh and third placing.
The 12-14 years 125cc title went offshore with Australian Jesse Dobson (KTM) taking the win with four wins and a seventh. The early leader had been Hadleigh Knight (Atiamuri) but he was sidelined on Sunday.
Tauranga's Matt Kenyon (Yamaha) finished 11th while Tauranga's Aaron Wiltshier (KTM) was well placed with a third and fifth until he crashed out of race three on Saturday and injured his shoulder.
The 11-12 years 85cc saw Hamilton's Josiah Natzke (Yamaha) make sure the title stayed in New Zealand. Natzke was a clear winner with several wins and a second.
