Following a haul of three gold, two silver and one bronze at the Whangaparoa Taekwondo Open, Te Puke's Maanauri Wilson, 13, had more success at the Taekwondo New Zealand Open at the North Shore Events Centre.
It has been 11 years since his club Aotearoa entered a team into a TNZ tournament, when four students made the 2005 Junior World team tour to Korea with the NZTF winning three gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Maanauri won gold in the Black Belt and silver in the Red Belt divisions, showing superior strength, skill and confidence to literally fight his way to the top.
Maanauri has a promising future with the support of family and the wealth of experience brought by masters and coach.
Patience, hard work and dedication has been the key to his success.
