Mt Maunganui surfer Matt Hewitt eyes a massive oncoming section during his heat yesterday at the O'Neill Cold Water Classic being held at Gisborne.
Hewitt won his heat against opponents from Brazil, USA and Australia.
His win means he's through to the last 48 surfers in the event and a big match
against Ruda Carvalho (BRA), Thomas Hermes (BRA) and Brent Dorrington (AUS) which is likely to take place today.
