Rugby

The First XV took a trip to South Auckland during the weekend to play Wesley College in the Chief's Cup. Wesley had a lot of power and size behind their players and got two quick tries up on Tauranga Boys' in the first 15 minutes from cheeky chip kicks.
The
bounce of the ball went in Wesley's favour making the score 12-0 in the middle of the second half.
It was a slow start for Tauranga Boys' but late in the first half we woke up and started making good metres. Manaia Harawira and Sione Afu Tuputupu running good hard and fast line setting a good platform for our backs. Tauranga Boys missed a penalty before late in the first half their defence let them down and Wesley's winger scored a try making it 19-0 with the conversion successful.
At half time wise words from Dan Goodwin and Richy Apanui gave the boys some inspiration. They started off the second half positively camping down in Wesley's half but weren't able to get over the white line. Quick turn over ball from Wesley forced Tauranga Boys' back in there own 22 on defence. Wesley scored another try making the score 26-0 with the conversion successful late in the second half. Some Tauranga Boys' reserves were put on with Josh Smethurst making a big impact off the bench.
With 10 minutes left from a scrum on Wesley's 5-metre line, Luke Maxwell opted to go blindside passing the ball to Steven Masters who scored. The conversion was successful to make it 26-7. Sione Faiva dotted down shortly after to make the final score 26-14 to Wesley College.
