Tauranga Boys' College plucked a huge scalp in their first big traditional first XV rugby fixture of the season on Saturday.
Tauranga Boys' beat Auckland Grammar 13-10 on Nicholson Field after a torrid second half, filled with fantastic defence.
Fullback Te Aihe Toma nailed the only points of the second spell, apenalty from wide out, while Iziah Malcolm also emerged as a hero after cutting down a 40m Grammar attack inches from the line.
Daniel van den Berg scored Tauranga's only try in the first spell, while Toma added the conversion and a penalty, but the Grammar forward pack lifted their rating and scored through Davis Tuinavia and big No8 Simi Kata.
Other defenders to feature in the gripping second half were Shem Whareroa, Forrest Paul, Aaron Carroll and Van den Berg, who made tackle after tackle for the whole 70 minutes.
