The Tauranga Pony Club took first place at the New Zealand Pony Club Association North Island Horse Trial Championships in Tokoroa.

It was the first time the club had won the Timberlands Trophy for years, their team of six beating the best from 18 New Zealand Pony Club teams around the North Island. Tauranga had 121 penalties from their top four counting riders last weekend.

The event consisted of each rider completing three phases of the competition - dressage and show jumping on Saturday, with cross-country on Sunday.

Team members thanked Colin Amrein Contracting for sponsoring their shirts.
