Jetskier Carl Lampe jnr went toe to toe with world champion skier Sam Harvey in the final round of the North Island Summer Series at Papamoa Beach on Saturday.
Harvey, the 2009 pro-runabout jetski world champion, eventually took out the open elite class, winning two out of three heats.
Event organiser Leanne Brown
was delighted with the event at Harrisons Cut, which was the fourth and final round in the series and saw 47 jetskis squaring off in 10 classes.
The nine Tauranga racers also had a successful day out, snapping up half a dozen trophies, and Ms Brown said the impressive flips and tricks demonstrated by the Delusion freestyle riding group went down well with spectators on the beach.
The winners of Saturday's event will meet again at the 2011 Seadoo Woodbine Marine New Zealand Jet Sport Nationals at Rotorua's Blue Lake at the end of the month.
