WaiBOP Premiership leaders Cambridge and Katikati both suffered defeats last weekend.

Cambridge's 1-0 defeat by Tauranga Old Blues, at John Kerkhof Park, was the shock result of the round. Old Blues went ahead on eight minutes, when they tucked home what would turn out to be the only goal of the game.

Despite having much of the possession and holding Old Blues to only a handful of meaningful attacks, Cambridge couldn't find a way back. They were awarded a penalty inside the final 10 minutes but WaiBOP United's Robbie Greenhalgh missed. Old Blues took the Federation Challenge Shield home to Wharepai Domain.

Ngongotaha hammered previously unbeaten Katikati 5-1 at Moore Park, Katikati. In a tight first half, a double from Luke Barker saw the visitors marginally ahead of the hosts, who had keeper Dane Stollery to thank for keeping them in the game. Eamon O'Donahue scored Ngongotaha's third two minutes into the second half and two more goals followed to give Ngongotaha their second win from two games.

A competitive first half saw the sides deadlocked at the break, but Melville ran all over the students after the interval. Tauranga Boys' were backing up from a match the day before.

Tauranga City scored two second half goals through Alin Misicu and Jack Chaney to defeat Otumoetai 2-0, while Papamoa scored in the 89th minute to draw their match against Matamata Swifts 1-all. Earlier, a Jamie Baxter corner had been turned in by the Papamoa defence to give the Swifts the lead.

Claudelands reserves defeated Kawerau Sports 2-1 in the match of the round in the WaiBOP Championship. Te Puke moved into second with a 2-0 win at home over Old Blues reserves, thanks to first half strikes from Charlie McIllwaine and Anderson Viera Dos Reis.
