Bay of Plenty Cricket is widely regarded the most successful NZ minor association in the last decade. Multiple Northern Districts Fergus Hickey Rosebowl titles and four successful Hawke Cup defences suggest the association has one of the best player pathways in the land.

A key part of the pathway has been top-quality coaching, which has seen previous Bay of Plenty senior men's coach James Pamment progress to coach the Northern Knights in the NZ Cricket Domestic competitions.

Tomorrow and on Sunday, September 20, Bay of Plenty Cricket will run a NZ Cricket Level One Coaching course at Tauranga Boys' College. The level-one course is the first of three sequential courses in the NZ Cricket Coaching pathway.

Level-one coaching lessons are primarily designed for coaches stepping up to 11-players-a-side age group (9-18 years) cricket. It is expected that the prospective level-one coaches will have playing experience and/or knowledge of the game.

Level-one qualification is also a stepping stone for senior club coaches and a useful qualification for current players keen to play in the Northern Hemisphere during the New Zealand winter.

The NZC Level One course focuses on detailed planning and evaluation, understanding and using the principles of biomechanics to coach, analysing and improving skills, understanding the coaching process and effective coaching including tactics.

A third ND Cricket Art of Coaching evening returns to Tauranga next Wednesday.

Included in the ND Cricket panel attending will be Northern Knights head coach Pamment and New Zealand legend Lance Cairns.

The Art of Coaching evening is ideal for aspiring level-one coaches.

Anyone who intends to coach cricket this season, however, is welcome to attend and will benefit from the panel discussion delivered by the full ND coaching team.

For more information, contact Tai Bridgman-Raison at tai@bopcricket.co.nz or 075759120.
