Te Puke High
Last week's girls 2nd XI hockey match saw the team draw 0-0 with the Aquinas College second XI. Player of the match was Holly Wardell.
The Fusion girls 1st XI started their match tentatively against Otumoetai College's 2nd XI and were down 1-0 within 10 minutes. After conceding a further goal before a quarter of the match had passed, the team started to put together some strong passing movements.
The result was a great field goal to reduce the deficit. The final result was a 4-2 win to Te Puke, with Lauren Boyd the coach's player of the match.
Our first XI football team hosted competition heavyweights Trident High School in Saturday's second round of the Baywide youth premier league. The playing surface at Litt Park was in immaculate condition but the hosts couldn't take advantage of the Whakatane side's weather-disrupted preparations and looked short of pace and energy through the first half.
The loss of star centre-back Brendon Taylor to a freak injury 15 minutes into the game led to a reshuffle in the home defence, with Keegan Wilson thriving on the additional responsibility forced his way, but generally the dynamic passing game the team is known for was not in evidence. An inspired halftime talk from coach Matt Park and the return to the field of their key defender saw the team re-invigorated and back to their best passing game for the next 30 minutes, leading to a classy Richard Ireland goal. However, a few lapses in the last 10 minutes saw Trident decisively taking the points, leaving the Te Puke team to work on factors that will have them performing with more consistency.

There are some kids you just don't mess with, and Riley Maguire is proving to be one of them.
At just 12, Riley is already making a name for himself in the martial arts world. He competed in Auckland in an International Judo Open last week where he gained a silver medal.
Riley was competing in the senior boys under-45kg category and had some outstanding fights - with all bar the final by ippon - which means full point, an instant win.
Riley's success comes hot on the heels of an East Coast tournament held in Gisborne recently where he finished third.
Riley has been doing judo for three years now with the Greerton-based Tauranga Judo Club and has an orange belt with two green tabs.

Otumoetai College
Great news for our girls first XI footballers who faced a playoff game against Trident High School to qualify for the premier tournament this year. Having to travel to Trident and play on their home pitch was their first challenge, but a solid 2-1 victory secures them a spot in the elite tournament.
Our boys' first XI football team, led by captain Matt Hunter, notched up a 6-2 win against Rotorua following on from last week's 9-3 win against Tauranga Boys' 2nd XI. A good defensive effort by Matt Hunter and Harry Lytten kept the visitors well in check while our attack kept applying pressure, resulting in goals for Luke Wakley (2), Nick Schmits (2), Rodrigo Mariante and Charlie Clague.
