Bay players are dotted through the Chiefs development rugby team playing Tonga A in Pukekohe tonight.
Chiefs squad members Culum Retallick and Dan Perrin will start at lock and reserve hooker respectively, while wider training group members Sam Cane and Phil Burleigh will be at openside and second-five.
Steamers fullback Lance MacDonald
also gets a run, as does prop Josh Hohneck, while Dan Waenga will cover first-five off the bench.
There will also be interest in the performance of former Bay flanker Matt Vant Leven, who has been named vice-captain starting at No8.
Former All Black Richard Kahui slots in at centre, with the side coached by former Bay coaches Milton Haig (Counties-Manukau) and Chiefs technical adviser Kevin Schuler.
"We are very excited about the start of the Chiefs development campaign and it's great to have five Chiefs available for our first game," Schuler said. "We have been training well, so the lads are excited about getting out on to the paddock."
The match is the first in the IRB Pacific Rugby Cup tournament, which will also see the Chiefs' development side take on Fiji at Blake Park, Mount Maunganui, on Wednesday.
Chiefs development:
Lance MacDonald, Save Tokula, Richard Kahui, Phil Burleigh, Ahsee Tuala, Trent Renata (capt), Malcolm Barnes, Matt Vant Leven, Sam Cane, Taisina Tuifua, Culum Retallick, Jamie Chipman, Ben Afeaki, Simon Lemalu, Josh Hohneck.
Reserves: Daniel Perrin, Latu Talakai, Viliami Fihaki, Mark Selwyn, Samisoni Fisilau, Dan Waenga, Rey Lee-lo.
