RUGBY
Two big bands of supporters witnessed the annual clash between Tauranga Christian schools Bethlehem and Aquinas Colleges, who were playing in the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic division 3 first XV competition.
Strong defence from both sides highlighted the opening quarter before Bethlehem's Mathew Randrup scored the first try,   converted by Matty
Cole and two penalties giving Bethlehem a 13-3 lead at the break.
In the second half, Bethlehem ran in  three tries to Jared McNaughton, Tim Richards and William Peters for a 41-10 win and the Randrup Trophy. Aquinas' points came from a try to Shane Black and a penalty and conversion   to Matt Wilson.
Bay of Plenty Polytechnic secondary schools first XV scores:
Division One: Rotorua Boys High 1st XV: 54 Opotiki College: 0, Rotorua Boys High 2nd XV: 31 Trident High: 14, Tauranga Boys College second XV: 16 Western Heights High: 12.
Division Two: Reporoa: 31 Whakatane: 17, Katikati: 9 Mount Maunganui: 7, Otumoetai: 24 Tauhara: 0, John Paul College: 12 Rotorua Boys High: 5, Rotorua Lakes: 3 Edgecumbe: 0.
Division Three: Bethlehem: 41 Aquinas: 10, Taupo Nui A Tia: 32 Kawerau: 10.
