Wood the size of pallets and a shovel was found scattered along a busy road in Tauranga.

Police were called to reports of wood blocking the right lane of Te Awanui Dr at 12.50pm.

The scattered wood was also found at the start of the bridge heading from Tauranga to Mount Maunganui.

A police media spokeswoman said "wood the size of pallets" and a shovel was found on Takitimu Dr which was blocking the road but she was unsure of which lane.

She said police had been to the scene and had since left.
