Women's rugy, boxing benefit from Bay of Plenty community grants

The Bay of Plenty Rugby Union, Kawerau Boxing Club Charitable Trust, and Rotorua Lakes Council are among the three biggest recipients of funding from the round of grants handed out by New Zealand Community Trust.

Kawerau Boxing Club Charitable Trust was the big winner, being granted $90,000 from a pool of more than $500,000. The funds were to be used to go towards towards contract fees for an operations manager and two programme developers.

Women's rugby got the second biggest bite with the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union being granted more than $70,000, for the salaries for head of women's performance rugby, women's player development manager and women's rugby development officer.

The Rotorua Lakes Council was granted $45,000 towards costs associated with community activation aspects of Rotorua's upcoming Crankworx. The council said the funding would go towards resources required to support the delivery of Crankworx related community activations. These events include Kidsworx, the dual slalom events at the 'Wattles' and the Canon Deep Summer Photo Competition. The resources could include (but are not limited to) items such as fencing, toilets, traffic management, screens and sound equipment.

Bay of Plenty Badminton Association - $20,000, towards salary of Sport Development Officer/Administration

Bay of Plenty Rugby Union - $70,622, towards salaries for Head of Women's Performance Rugby, Women's Player Development Manager and Women's Rugby Development Officer

Canoe Slalom Bay of Plenty - $17,976, towards hosting costs for NZ Secondary Schools and NZ Nationals

Coastguard Eastern Region Association - $15,000, towards salary of a Trainer in Tauranga

Coastline District Rugby League - $7382, towards playing uniforms for referees and representative teams, and equipment

Hoe Aroha Whanau O Mauao Outrigger Canoe Club - $16,000, towards a waka

Homewood Park Tennis Club - $3200, towards junior coaching

Katikati College - $12,000, towards accommodation to attend National Secondary Schools Volleyball Tournament in Palmerston North, and supply and installation of shock pads for hockey turf replacement

Kawerau Boxing Club Charitable Trust - $90,000, towards contract fees for Operations Manager and two Programme Developers

Lakeland Power Boat Club - $4945, towards medical cover for Hydro Thunder Racing Event in Rotorua

Lynmore Tennis Club, $14,136, towards repair of rusted and broken poles and fencing around courts 4-6, and new access gate

NZ Cuban Festival Trust - $7800, towards instructor fees

Ohinemutu Kapa Haka - $5000, towards piupiu

Otumoetai College - $15,000, towards travel and accommodation to attend New Zealand Secondary Schools Volleyball Championships in Palmerston North

Rangiuru 2H Maori Reservation – Makahae Marae - $1500, towards repairs to dining hall roof

Tennis Western BOP - $7000, towards salary of Regional Coachforce Development Officer

Western Heights High School Rotorua - $3000, towards travel and accommodation

Whakarewarewa Rugby Community Sports - $4752, towards medical and first aid equipment for Baywide Rugby Competition 2019

Whakatane Judo Club - $20,000, towards new mats
