If you're a high school student with a passion for writing, what are your career paths?

That's the question a group of passionate young teenagers are seeking the answer to at a writers' event this weekend in Tauranga.

Aquinas College student Lilli Scott, 17, is organising the Women in Writing event, to be held on Saturday from 10am at Greerton Library.

Lilli has a passion for writing and has attended a number of writers' events but said they were "quite disheartening" about career prospects in the field.

This prompted Lilli to organise her own event for students who love English and writing and were interested in finding out what job opportunities were available.

She has invited speakers - an author, blogger and copywriter; a journalist; and recent English graduates - to share their experiences and knowledge.

"There's not too many opportunities in the area. I wanted to target the students that want to pursue it in a way that's feasible.

"I want to find out about it for others, but for myself as well."

Lilli said there had been a good level of interest from students at Aquinas, and other schools had been contacted about the event.

She expected up to 30 students would show up, from a range of ages.
