Woman seriously assaulted, flown to hospital

A woman assaulted on Rangiwaea Island has been flown to Tauranga Hospital.

The 39-year-old woman suffered serious shoulder injuries in the assault and was flown to hospital by the Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter.

Rangiwaea Island sits between Matakana Island and the mainland, bordering the Tauranga Harbour.

The helicopter was used because of access difficulties and the need for the patient to get to hospital quickly.
