A woman remains in hospital in a critical condition following a crash south of Tauranga yesterday.

A spokeswoman for Waikato Hospital said the 31-year-old woman was in the intensive care unit.

Police have said she was one of seven people in a car that lost control on a bend on Te Matai Rd, hit a power pole and rolled.

She was a passenger in the five-seater vehicle and was thrown from the car during the crash.

No one else was seriously injured.

The acting head of Western Bay road policing, Senior Sergeant Wayne Hunter, said police had spoken to the car's driver and the investigation was ongoing.
