Police are investigating a fire that engulfed a Whakatāne house on Monday.

Emergency services were called to the Farnsworth Cres property just after 2pm.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager Lauren Sika said four fire trucks and one support vehicle were sent.

All persons in the house were accounted for, Sika said.

The fire was extinguished around 3.39pm.

Video sent to the Rotorua Daily Post showed flames and smoke pouring from the house as emergency services staff fought the blaze.

A police spokeswoman said today that inquiries into the fire were ongoing.
