Drivers have been warned to look out for numerous road works and hazards in Tauranga.
The annual AIMS Games, which sees thousands of 11-13 year olds and their guardians descend on Tauranga, begins on Sunday and would continue through until Friday September 9.
During the week there would be eventsat most sports facilities and reserves throughout the city, and the New Zealand Transport Agency asked motorists to allow extra time while travelling during this time.
Tauranga City Council would provide a free park and ride service.
The Takitimu Drive roundabout at SH29 and SH 36 was another area motorists have been asked to drive with care and expect delays.
Tauranga City Council contractors were carrying out works and speed restrictions, lane closures and occassional stop/go traffic management would be in place.
West-bound traffic at the the SH29a Maungatapu underpass would be re-routed on Monday to allow construction to start on the second Maungatapu roundabout bridge.
